Step into a world of high-stakes espionage and political intrigue with Rape of the Aegean, a riveting crime and mystery thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
On October 28th, during the iconic ‘Och’ Day parade in Athens, a covert army coup is set in motion-one orchestrated by Lighthouse, a shadowy offshoot of MI6. While the Greek government remains blissfully unaware, the CIA’s Balkan Overlook Station detects ominous signs when a spy satellite captures the shocking assassination of Finance Minister Christos Antonopoulos. The stakes are raised as the fragile balance of power in Europe hangs in the air.
Laura Foot, the head of operations at the Overlook Station, finds herself in a perilous position. Engaged in a clandestine affair with Arcady, a charismatic Russian diplomat, Laura struggles to keep her professional life separate from her personal entanglements. As their passion ignites, Laura begins to divulge classified snippets of information, unknowingly jeopardising both of their lives. Will her secrets bring them closer together or tear them apart?
In the midst of this turmoil, Ariadne, the Lighthouse liaison, faces her own crisis. Her son, Alex, is being blackmailed by the ruthless Greek Prime Minister Themis Xenakis. After the murder of Antonopoulos, Alex is reluctantly thrust into the role of Finance Minister, forced to announce a shocking alliance between Russia, Germany, and Greece at the prestigious Bilderberg meeting. However, unbeknownst to Xenakis, Alex is a CIA sleeper agent. His activation comes just as the coup is about to unfold, and he must navigate a treacherous landscape filled with deception and danger.
As Alex teams up with the stunning former East German double agent Gitta Lehrer, the plot thickens. Gitta, assigned to protect Alex, becomes an invaluable ally in a game where trust is a luxury they cannot afford. Together, they must unravel the conspiracy threatening to destabilise Europe while keeping their own secrets hidden.
Meanwhile, Gregory Mitchell, second-in-command at Lighthouse, believes that eliminating key players after the coup is crucial for their survival. His ruthless actions lead to a series of assassinations that send shockwaves through the political landscape, igniting a deadly cat-and-mouse game.
Xenakis, determined to profit from the chaos, enlists mercenary John Dexter to execute a plan that could trigger a catastrophic Euro sell-off. As the night of the Bilderberg meeting approaches, Alex and Gitta must race against time to thwart Xenakis’s ambitions and prevent a financial disaster that could plunge Europe into darkness.

🧐What readers say about the book
First of all I'd love to appreciate Philip on this wonderful book which he put out for public consumption. It takes the reader on a fiction that occurred in Greece termed the “Gladio” incident. A political scheme centered around the partnership with The Prime Minister of Greece, Germany and Russia, giving them exclusive rights to mining the Aegen region and splitting of the profits between the Triumvirate for their personal gains. But with the investigations and actions carried out by the secret service of both the United States and Britian, they were able to stop the triumvirate from achieving their selfish goals. The setting, character building and use of simplistic words really brought the book to life. The conversations held by each character were so detailed and helpful that it made the book an easy read. Filled with suspense, the book had me very anxious at some point and made me feel as if the happenings were in real time. Laura is the character whom I fancied the most. From her education as a very smart and attractive woman to her rise as an analyst in the CIA. She was living her best life but not for long as her interest in matured men was part of the things that led to her demise. One thing that particularly caught my attention in the book was the use of “context” in the form introduction by Philip in each chapter of the book. It made the understanding of each chapter easier as it was as if the reader already had inside information on the characters being talked about. You can't talk about “Rape of the Aegean” without bringing up the romance scenes which I would say was quite tempting as Philip gave every detail on it. More reason why I wouldn't recommend this text to teengers below the age of 18. On the other hand, the action scenes are on another level. From the use of derringers to tanks during combat and even poison made it worth every page. I would say the book as a whole made me know more about the country Greece and a little bit of the financial markets having been incorporated by Philip into this unique text.
